Corpus Christi Has Always Been Home

I am a fifth-generation Corpus Christian and have spent my entire life here. Growing up in the Sparkling City by the Sea, I developed a deep appreciation for our natural resources, our culture, and the people who make this community special. Corpus Christi is where I was raised, where I built my career, where Amanda and I are raising our family, and where I hope future generations will continue to call home.

My parents owned and operated Royal Cleaners, a family business founded by my great-grandparents Jose and Silvestra Gonzalez in 1914. It was the first Hispanic-owned laundry and dry-cleaning business in Corpus Christi. As a kid, I spent many mornings helping my dad start equipment, sort garments, and spot clean clothes to earn my allowance. Looking back, those early mornings taught me lessons about hard work, responsibility, and treating people right that still guide me today.

Learning to Create Opportunity

After graduating from Richard King High School in 2000, I attended Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi before moving to College Station to pursue a degree in Construction Science. Unfortunately, life had other plans. When my mother passed away unexpectedly, I returned home to help care for my disabled father and begin the next chapter of my life.

Finding work wasn't easy. I interviewed for several jobs and received only one potential opportunity with a local general contractor. The company wanted to hire me but didn't have enough work to bring me on full-time. Rather than wait around, I offered to work for free to prove what I could do.

Most people thought I was crazy.

I looked at it differently. I saw it as a free education and a chance to create my own opportunity. That decision changed my life and started a career in commercial construction that has now spanned more than 25 years. Today, I serve as Vice President of Teal Construction Company, a full-service general contractor with offices in Corpus Christi and Houston.

Getting Involved

Throughout my career, I've worked closely with businesses, developers, neighborhoods, and local government. I've seen a lot of things done right, and I've also seen things that could be done better.

That is one of the reasons I've spent so much time serving our community. I've had the honor of serving on the Planning Commission, helping shape development policies and growth throughout our city. I've also worked on issues involving water conservation, affordable housing, and development standards because I believe these are some of the most important challenges facing Corpus Christi today.

My community involvement has also included serving with organizations such as Goodwill Industries of South Texas and Corpus Christi Metro Ministries. These experiences have given me the opportunity to work alongside people who care deeply about making our city stronger and improving the lives of others.

Why I'm Running

Over the years, I have become known for speaking up when I believe something isn't fair. I believe government should create an even playing field where everyone has the opportunity to succeed. It should not be in the business of picking winners and losers.

I decided to run for Corpus Christi City Council At-Large because I care deeply about the future of Corpus Christi. We need leadership that is willing to address long-term challenges, protect our quality of life, improve our infrastructure, and ensure that future generations have the same opportunities that many of us have enjoyed.

Corpus Christi has given so much to me and my family. Serving this city is my opportunity to give something back.

Faith, Family, and the Future

When I'm not working, you'll usually find me outdoors. Whether it's fishing, bird hunting, mountain biking, or spending time on the boat, I enjoy everything that makes life on the Texas coast special.

Most importantly, I am the proud husband of Amanda and father to Kensey, Ella, and Mary Charlotte. We attend St. Pius X Catholic Church, the same parish I have called home since 1986. After my faith, family is the most important part of my life. Everything I do, including this campaign, is driven by a simple goal: leaving Corpus Christi better than I found it for my children and the generations that follow.

Securing Our Most Important Resource

Water is essential to our quality of life, our economy, and our future growth. We need a balanced, forward-thinking strategy that protects ratepayers, diversifies our water supply, and ensures major projects are planned responsibly with long-term sustainability in mind.

Building Infrastructure That Lasts

Too often, we spend taxpayer dollars repairing the same roads over and over again. By focusing on durable infrastructure, smarter construction practices, and long-term planning, we can build streets and utility systems that better serve residents while reducing future maintenance costs.

Helping with Compassion & Coordination

Homelessness is a complex challenge that affects individuals, families, and the entire community. By improving coordination among service providers, expanding affordable housing opportunities, and focusing on prevention, we can help more people find stability while creating better outcomes for our city as a whole.

A great city is more than roads and buildings. By expanding trails, improving access to our waterways, supporting local businesses, and strengthening connections between neighborhoods and amenities, we can create a healthier, more vibrant community that attracts and retains talent.

Supporting Those who Protect Us

Strong public safety begins with supporting our police officers, firefighters, EMS personnel, and emergency dispatchers. By improving response times, investing in prevention, and expanding mental health resources for first responders, we can keep our community safe while ensuring those who serve us receive the support they deserve.

I have worked in the construction industry for more than 25 years and have firsthand experience with the challenges of business, development, infrastructure, and responsible growth.

  • I love Corpus Christi and believe our best days are still ahead of us. I decided to run because I want to help address the long-term issues facing our city, including water reliability, infrastructure, quality of life, and responsible growth. I believe local government should be accountable, transparent, and focused on delivering results for the people it serves.

  • I have spent years serving our community through civic and nonprofit leadership. I served as Chairman and Commissioner of the Corpus Christi Planning Commission and have worked on initiatives involving water conservation, affordable housing, and development standards. Those experiences have given me a strong understanding of how local government works and where improvements are needed.

  • I enjoy spending time outdoors with family and friends. Whether it's fishing, hunting, mountain biking, or being out on the water, I take advantage of everything that makes living on the Texas coast special.

  • My wife Amanda and I are blessed to be raising our three daughters, Kensey, Ella, and Mary Charlotte, here in Corpus Christi. We attend St. Pius X Catholic Church, and our faith and family are at the center of everything we do. One of the biggest reasons I'm running is because I want to leave a stronger Corpus Christi for our children and future generations.
